In boxing the term “Prize Fighter” is common. This describes one that competes in the sport for money. The prize fighter is generally motivated by 2 major components: The love of the sport & the reward.
With this in mind, they don’t participate for recreation, they preserve their skills & abilities for the big fights. In like manner, Christians are called to be “spiritual prize fighters”, motivated solely on their love for God & the reward of heaven.
Like the athelete, we live & function under this motivation. Paul elaborates on this concept in Philippians 3, “I press toward the goal for the prixe of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 3:14.
